"Bowness: Our Village in the Valley"

The book is now available for sale. OrderForm Our book was officially launched on September 10, 2005. Over 600 people attended the Book Launch and over 500 books were sold, not counting pre-ordered books. This was a memorable day in the history of the community of Bowness. Many 'old' Bowness residents, along with their children and grandchildren were present. Lynn Newman, who was born in Bowness, and still resides here, was given the honour of unveiling the first book. Guest speakers were MLA Alana Delong and Alderman Dale Hodges. The positive comments from people who have purchased the book have been tremendous. Sales quickly justified a second printing in 2006.

We wish to thank our major funders for their financial assistance in the publication of our book -
Alberta Historical Resources Foundation
Community Initiatives Program, Province of Alberta
The Calgary Foundation
Mr Alan Markin, our major private funder.

A copy of the book can be viewed at the Bowness Branch of the Calgary Public Library.

We trust that our book will inspire all readers to pass on their stories and photographs for our next book project - "Bowness - Then and Now".

Your family photographs are important to the history of Bowness and our growing archive of Photographs. We have developed a respectful protocol for electronically scanning photographs so that you keep the original. The Bowness Historical Society will share your stories through our website, book projects, poster sessions, and our regular newsletter, the Bowness Beacon. In particular we are searching for photographs of the Bow Theatre, early schools, businesses, Bowness Flying Field, the streetcar, Post Office and above all, your family members and friends who contributed to community life in Bowness.
